Autism is a neuro-developmental disorder, affecting a child’s social interactions and communication skills. Restrictive, repetitive, stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests and activities are also observed in this disorder. Around 3 million people in India have some Autism Spectrum Disorder with the prevalence rate rapidly increasing.
Autism Spectrum Disorders can be diagnosed as early as 18 months, with early intervention strategies proving to be most beneficial for handling and managing these symptoms so that the child can lead a relatively normal life.
Small Steps Morris Autism and Child Development Centre, established in 2015, helps around 1500 children with Autism Spectrum Disorders yearly. The Centre’s mission is to work towards early diagnosis and intervention, while empowering the parents to provide therapies to their child in their own home environment. The multi-disciplinary set up ensures that the child receives holistic treatment, ranging from psychological assessments, special education, sensory integration and occupational therapy to speech therapy, group therapy sessions etc.
