INAUGURATION OF THE NEW 3T MRI UNIT AT DMH
Sunday August 21, 2016

The new 3T Siemens Skyra MRI on the ground floor super specialty building, was inaugurated at the hands of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Hon. Shree. Devendra Fadnavis on 21st of August 2016.

Why the upgrade to a 3T Skyra MRI at DMH?

The highlight of the inauguration event was understanding the basis of why we upgraded to a 3 Tesla MRI from the older 1.5 Tesla machine. These are some of the salient features of the new MRI unit.

Highest resolution imaging details: The 3Tensures highest resolution of imaging for details especially for like brain imaging and smaller structures like fingers which were not as well outlined on the 1.5 T.

Wider cavity: The MRI machine cavity is a fairly claustrophobic environment for most patients especially children and obese patients who often cannot be accommodated in the older smaller bore machines. This is what makes the increase in cavity size from 60cm to 70cm in the new machine so important.

Faster scanning & reduced noise levels: The new machine would run scans in much shorter time, making it especially valuable in cases of neurological stroke, cardiac scans, head injury etc. Also, the machine has much lower noise levels thus reducing patient discomfort and increasing compliance.

Making this service affordable to all

Keeping in line with our philosophy the hospital strives to make these MRI services affordable to poor and needy patients. Starting 1st September 2016, the MRI scans would be done at 50% concession between 8pm at night to 8am in the morning. This would be available for all patients who need the concession on an appointment basis.
