Small Steps Morris Autism and Child Development Center at DeenanathMangeshkar Hospital and Research Center, is a multidisciplinary diagnostic and therapy center for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Learning Difficulties, and Cerebral Palsy etc. The department helps around 1500 children having Autism Spectrum Disorder yearly. Small Steps’ mission is to work towards early diagnosis and intervention for Autism, while empowering parents and trainers to provide the necessary therapies to their children in their own home environment.
Considering the ever-increasing prevalence and incidence rate of autism in India, there is a growing need to train more therapists for helping these children become self-sufficient and inclusive in society.
Sunderji’s Global Academia is an education centric institution since 1996. Vision & Mission of the course
The aim of this course is to prepare the trainee teacher to screen, assess, educate and train persons with autism in individual and/or group settings.
On completion of the course the trainee teacher is expected to:

Understand the characteristics and etiology of ASD and associated conditions

Be familiar with the process of screening and diagnosis of ASD

Be acquainted with the stages of child growth & development and psychology of learning

Understand the objectives of general education, and organization of special education services

Plan and implement educational programs, selecting teaching methods suitable for people with ASD, keeping in mind the specific needs of each individual concerned.

Develop suitable educational programs for individuals with conditions associated with ASD

Understand the needs of family and promote integration of person with ASD within family and community.
